I managed to JB Weld my Ugly Stik, and it feels pretty sturdy. I swung it around a little bit. Unfortunately, I'm not too confident in the replacement rod I received. I heard cracking sounds three times. Twice on small largemouth bass and once while casting a 1/16 oz jig (this is a med rod). There is a large scratch in the rod, painted over, but it hadn't grown any and doesn't look too serious. I tried putting a deep bend in the rod, yet there was no cracking. I think I'm going to be all right, but I'm still a bit concerned.
