So ya, they're not container candidates. They keep growing and pretty much everywhere at that. Actually, on the invasive list here in CA not too long ago. Not sure of current status tho.
I'm in high desert south California, 8b. Koppen class semi-arid BSk. I have two on my property, both were about the size of yours when they were planted in 2004. Picrelated was an hour ago and the same palm as in previous post. The other is slightly smaller and 60' further back from street. Typically get a couple weeks of mid-20s every winter and I've seen down to TWO DEGREES! once about 8-9 years ago. IMO, after it's established you won't need to worry about it so much. Besides, once taller than you, it won't be getting bound upwards any longer. Those spikes don't play.
