>>1604459>sequoia sempervirensthat's the coastal redwood, not the giant sequoia. giant sequoia's actually make shit lumber. they're wood is relatively brittle (they tend to shatter when you cut them down) and isn't nearly as rot/bug resistant as coastal redwood (the reason coastal redwood is so valuable). and the coastal redwood definitely needs the sea fog to be happy. source: my parent's property is literally on the fog margin and the lower part has redwoods and the upper part (200' higher elevation) does not.
