I guess a few years ago, various people in the pipe tobacco industry got together to start a project to replicate Syrian latakia using the soil and wood in Turkey. Apparently they had noticed a decline in quality of Cyprian latakia and wanted to do something about it. Now the head blender of C&D is working with them to produce some small batch blends, but I heard that they might start using it for all of their latakia blends once the supply is met.
