It's not "supposed" to do anything though, since it's a result of many various factors which can also result in ... nothing. Earth could've be an inert unchanging iceball for the past 4.5 billion years too, that wouldn't be out of the norm. It's not, luckily for us.
Humans haven't caused "climate change" alone, obviously. No one intelligent claims that's the case. Still, the rate of change in the past ~200 years clearly has human causes, and is a faster change than we humans have ever seen. That's a fact and ice cores confirm that. It's pretty basic stuff. Take stored carbon (and other organic molecules) out of geologic repositories, vaporize them into the atmosphere (harnessing the energy they emit while doing so), greenhouse effect.
