Some other mountaineers that pioneered lightweight are Bill Tilman & Eric Shipton (Nanda Devi, Everest), Hermann Buhl (Broad Peak, Chogolisa) etc. Although in the past large military style siege expeditions were favoured over lightweight alpine style ones the latter are pretty much standard now.
