Drop bears aren't real either. We just say that to scare tourists.
Interestingly though, there has been a long standing belief with some people that there are wild panthers. Every so often you'll get a farmer from bum fuck no where phoning in a sighting. There are the people who adamantly believe there are still Tasmanian Tigers around, too. Again, people still phone in sightings. Would love it if that were true. Tasmanian tigers are one of my favourite animals.
