I have a lumapro flashlight in 2004 from thinkgeek on sale: $19.99 + $6 shipping + $1.55 tax = $27.54 shipped w/ extra battery
Pretty good deal for a less than 30 buck flashlight that is as solid as a maglite, as strong and almost as heavy. Lasted a decade and still going for me. Only thing is it only has on and off mode, no power saving modes. Recently there was a scheduled power outage and i found out it only lasts about 2 hours per battery. Obviously I needed a lantern to last the night.
I have a couple cheap free LED flashlights, doesn't throw farther than say a bedroom. It's more of a quick small area light to search for things in the dark room at night. Recently got a free flashlight from marlboro, it's brighter than all my other little led lights, comes with match holder and compass. Very nice. Pretty sure led has come a long way, the more expensive ones probably do way better.
Not looking to spend too much for flashlights, I wanted a fenix ld41 for 70 but not anymore. I would go for a nitecore srt7 for 80 bucks.
