The southern half of the state is beautiful during fall and spring. Surrounded by states with nice /out/ features too. Hiking the hill country is always great and the summer heat and mosquitoes usually aren't awful.
The northern half is nothing but flat corn and bean fields. The countryside is fairly unimpressive, and the the longest trails are still comparatively short. Pretty sure the longest trail is 80 or less miles...
