the doctrine that hell lasts forever is only is the bible because of a mistranslation, the reason they keep it in is because the mistranslation became acepted orthodox theology, if you tell people the truth about what the hebrew and greek says they call you a heretic.
Look at the word hell, the word hell appears 54 times in the kjv, 17 times in the esv, 15 for the NIV, 35 times for the nkjv, 98 times in the message (fundies say this translation is liberal, yet it is the most hellfire and brimestone bible out there in modern times), and 0 for YLT. Something isnt adding up, translators are playing loose and fast with the scriptures.
The 1 word hell comes from 3 greek words, ghehena, hades, and tartorus, each one means a different thing in the greek.
Reading the bible is not enough. I can recommend a good translation though.
