>>2132314Okay, you're right. There are things we can do, but it's honestly very small compared to the scale of the problem. I was going to write out an essay on how to actually go about reigning in climtae change, pollution, overfishing, biodiversity collapse, etc, but it all kind of simply came down to it will exceedingly likely not happen because of apathy or people don't want to live at a lower standard than what they had before.
Things like trash and pollution locally can be tackled and possibly even legislated out of existence but the plastic trash in the pacific will take a monumental amount of effort and money to clean up.
Climate change and the world warming up to uninhabitable levels is probably not even the world's biggest problem, it's once or if the temperatures are back to pre-industrial levels, it's what to do about the fact that humans and their livestock are 96% of the biomass on earth, and how to undo an entire extinction event that's been 30,000 years in the making.
We can't even get more than half the people in the world to wear masks in a pandemic to protect other people. It's absolute lunacy to think that the world would give up single use plastic cups or reduce consumerism on a massive level.
I want to believe humans can clean up the planet and reintroduce many dying species into their old homes and make this planet a beautiful and pollution free place once more but I'm just not seeing it being a reality. It's possible, absolutely, certainly, easily in fact, but people are selfish and money driven.
