>>1213281I've never run into the solar issues you are talking about.
>tens of thousands of repairs That's literally more than we have spend on our completely electrical grid that we (my family) has built and expanded since the 80's for our 1 acre compound of cabins in central Maine (mostly summer us). Granted between our solar and wind, we only have maybe 600 watts, but it's not like we need to run flat screen TVs and a hot tub. It's only to pump and filter lake water, charge phones, laptops, power tools, a few power efficient lights, and some small kitchen appliances. We don't have AC, and when it gets cold we light the wood stove. Our refrigerators and kitchen stoves run off large propane tanks that last half a year.
We are not fully off the grid, we have a phone line (which was of great expense to get in the 70's), and besides some herbs and vegetables we buy our food. But every other utility has been built and installed by myself or my family. And granted we do not live there, myself and a few others live there from may to early September, but live and work in Nj.
