The US still has far rugged lands and less people which is great but then you too have permits to be on national parks (sure there's national forests, blm and state land) and as far as I know none of that happens in Europe.
I would love to /out/ in the US, or Canada for that matter, but it's a very shortsighted view to diminish the whole Europe as a lesser /out/ place.
