>>2453630If you really like fishing, they’re worth it. I fish exclusively expensive tackle but that’s only because I skim the internet to find the best deals or establish relationships with certified Loomis tackle shops who can afford to give you a 35-45% off discount.
Most premium fishing stuff has a lot of haggle room and for reels you have Digitaka to take advantage of the falling Yen right now.
When it comes to conventional rods, they’re just lighter and more sensitive. Durability is a non factor as graphite rods have come a long way, they’re still more fragile than glass, but I’ve done some stupid things to my rods and nothing happened to them. If you fish a lot of bottom contact baits, an expensive rod is worth it. If you’re fishing reaction lures, a mid tier does just fine.
Fly rods, it’s more noticeable when you jump from low to high end. Very noticeable when casting, line speed, ease of keeping tight loops, accuracy, yadda yadda.
But a lightweight blank + Fuji torzites + balanced properly + lightweight reel = like there’s nothing at all in your hand.
