My boxer is great in cold weather, she's got enough energy to pull me up mountains while obedient enough to leave squirrels alone. Also despite being 60 pounds her growl sounds like a man eater so I like having a battle buddy should a bear/tweaker/skinwalker *block my path*. Only downside is that shortnosed dogs have trouble in the heat. It means I can't really push myself for too long when temperatures get above 85 or so, but that's not the worst thing. I like the mountains anyway and besides a couple hours during midday it rarely gets that hot above 1000ft. Would recommend, but not really if you live anywhere south of me (VA).
