Surgical scissors are cool.
I found that a pair of sheet metal shears work the best (weird I know).
>"knife"This is for scraping. You don't want it too sharp or it will tear the hide. Too dull and it won't scrape. I have a butter knife thats serated on one side. Goto the thrift store and spend 5 bucks for a box of silverware. Sometimea spoons work well. It's all about the individual utensil.
>"salt"Non-iodized, like $1 for a pound at Walmart. Used for drying.
>cardboardBreak down a big box. Use this to lay out the skin while drying.
>"board"I use a 3 foot piece of 2x8 to scrape on.
Please don't do this on the dining room table.
