Recently got a telescoping 12 foot cane pole as a gift, but I've never used anything without a reel. I assume it's as simple as putting bait on a hook and hoping for the best, but I think it would do well with a jig and soft plastic as well. Also, if I wanted to grab some flies and go for a redneck tenkara-type thing would I need to use fly line or do you think I could get away with just using mono and dead drifting?
