>>275614>Why do people always say he was an idiot or unprepared/unskilled?Because he was reckless and most likely depressed. Unfit for a survival situation.
>They miss the point completely. He didn't care if he died or not.Yes, he did. That note proves it.
>>275616>He wanted to escape society and find adventure, danger, freedom, and true friendship in any way he could. The possibility of dieing probably got his blood pumping and made it even more exciting and worth while.Except the part about actually dying. He was an idealistic smart-ass who didn't understand the gravity of what he was doing.
>His last years he probably felt alive in ways the wage slaving facebook blurb status updating drones of society will never feel.He died more than a decade before Facebook was even invented. That shouldn't factor into the equation. He wanted to feel free, and his answer was to remove himself from the equation entirely and permanently.
>This wasn't some stunt to show how impressive his survival skills were. His entire journey was a desperate act to find some authenticity in this existence. The truth is he was a depressed chump who died because of his idealistic approach to survival rather than being cautious and pragmatic. Chris didn't want help. Please stop idolizing this moron, and watch more Survivorman. The Norwegian episode shows just how close Les came to dying at one point. Although Les isn't perfect (The Costa Rican episode where he cut himself is proof enough), he's a very good starting point for the survival enthusiast. Just don't be an idiot and go out alone, ever.
In summary, the problem with Chris is that he could have had a great time in Alaska if he hadn't decided that he was "too good" for a survival buddy. In fact, I'm surprised he didn't die sooner, drowning in the Colorado river.
