Got a report from the hippie girl about the dying process.The skein on the right is a chemically treated cotton (I think) and the skein on the left is plain wool (sold to me with the comment "it's basically straight off the sheep"). 2+ pounds of fresh mushrooms went into the dye bath along with an alum mordant. Even with a shitload of mushrooms the dye bath could have been stronger.
The mushrooms are Western Jack O'Lanterns (Omphalotus olivascens). Fresh mushrooms' gills glow bioluminescent blue-green in the dark. They are poisonous to eat and will make you puke violently and feel awful. More pics forthcoming.
