Whenever there is war, you will have the innocent caught up in that mess and want no part of it. Imagine one day you are sitting in your house eating some breakfast and the next thing you know bombs are going off destroying your town and part of your house gets demolished from one of the blasts. Your house is now unsafe and your friends are either homeless like you or dead. You got to go somewhere safer and you take up a few things that will help you on your journey and you have only a few minutes to do so.
A BOB is a pack with such things already available and ready to go in case a disaster like war or environmental disaster would happen. My house got destroyed by a tornado a few years back and all I had at the time was my camping gear to get through the first couple of nights. I lost documents, family photos, and a few other personal belongings that could not be replaced. Ever since then I have a BOB ready to go along with copies of documents and photos on a flash drive along with a few luxuries to help with the coping.
Granted there are a few here and on /k/ that build BOB's for some weird fantasy role playing crap, to me my BOB is some way to rebuild my life again.
OP, I took a good look at your photo and if I am correct, your power strip looks like you are in Great Britain. The chances of chemical weapons being used in England are slim to non existent, however with the riots that happened there due to racial tension, a BOB would be helpful for you to find a place to stay with a friend for a few days.
