Fucking repeatedly pelting an animal with a small round that is largely incapable of killing it on the spot, just cause it great pain and wounding, is cheap, but it's also a terrible thing to do.
Imagine getting stabbed with a blunt ice-pick a few dozen times, and then some dude breaks in your head with a rock, if you had to choose between getting killed slowly and horribly, full of fright, or in a brief moment, maybe even instantly, what would you chose?
They could have sold or traded in one or both of their .22's for a single-shot 12-gauge or 20-gauge shotgun, and a box of buckshot, very cheap, and without question a more humane weapon to take the animal down with.
