I like my KABAR for batoning, though I try to avoid it now that I have a decent axe that can split things a lot easier. It also really is incredibly hard on the blade. All just to split a log. You should try to save your knife if possible and ask yourself how important it really is to split that log and whether there are better ways to do it.

huge knives [7"], reasonably thick stock [0.165"], nice steel [1095 cro-van] excellent quality of build, with great handle and handguard, typically flat quillions.
I picked up a KA-BAR 1213 just last month and it is a VERY satisfying knife, and they are all SUPER AFFORDABLE.
the only real tradeoff imo is the lack of a finger choil.
