I believe I'm the ultimate master of my own safety, and so when I hike the Appalachian Trail in the future I will most likely carry a handgun, whether that be open or concealed is to be determined.
Until then, I'm curious what reaction that will warrant from other hikers if seen open carrying, how common it is for hikers to be armed, and is it a go or no-go in general. Regardless, I feel I cannot leave myself vulnerable so if it doesn't end up being a handgun, what other methods of self defense would be better?
