I think he's on that mountain to fulfill his own purpose and live a life that has personal meaning. Living in a way that forces you to grow and widen your perspective on life itself. Theres a quote in the bible: 'for those who endure the reward will be great' or something like that.
So refusing donations is keeping himself on course and the videos are his gift to the world. Giving is receiving and all that.
