I also know people who were around to remember those older events,72-73 was the biggest event where snowpack didn't melt even by late August up near Big Lake, AZ the March snowdrift was measured at 50 feet in some spots between Maverick and McNary AZ. Lumber mill workers couldn't get access to areas even in July. Image related is also from 92 years ago, reliable snow record keeping goes back literally 127 years in my state. The most recent big event was Feb 22 2019 (60+ inch 48 hr storm) and 2022-2023 (372 inches). AZ has recorded 48 inches of snowfall within 24 hours 4 separate times, two officially and two unofficially.
The
1972-1973
1992-1993
2004-2005
Seasons all individually exceeded the all-time officially recorded record season snowfalls of Montana state.
Utah averages more than 600 inches of snowfall a year, the snowiest place in Colorado is *southern* Colorado. Both New Mexico and Nevada have all time records also higher than Montana, at 472 inches and 480+ inches. The normal winter jetstream lashes the four corners mountains and uplands with multiple big storm events a winter. Normally. The least coast literally gets mindbroken by this fact.
