I believe with Blues, a lot of people will just do bluegill. Bring a little UL jigging rod, catch some ~4" bluegill, get a big octopus hook, hook it through the back, and toss it out there with a good size weight a foot or two up the line.
Might want to go with shiners too if using bluegill for bait is illegal there.
I think there is an anon in NC who lands some big blues from time to time. I believe he is the same one who talks about using the bluegill.
