I feel like the carbineer is the easiest way to spot a new fag on the trail. Most have cheap ones that can't be used for anything. In my 2000+ miles of backpacking I have never came across a situation where I need one other than a really small one that came in my bear bag kit. It seems like ever hiker has them just dangling on their shoulder straps. Are they just trail bling?
