Mountain desert, any 4x4 on 30 inch tall tires (265 or so). Wheel base doesn't matter for most paths labeled a road.
Swamps and bogs, could require larger tires (33s or above) and a lift. Good rule for when dealing with water. Snow sort of operates the same way though being able to lower tire pressure in tighter situations could make a difference. Best adventure vehicle? Gotta be a 4 door, truck beds hardly get used and dont exceed 50 pounds worth of equipment hardly ever (long boards and fishing poles), but they do ride alright off road, and are built tough! Early 2000's Jelly Bean era f150s!! Final answer. Jeep XJ is another close choice for not using the bed when going up to the mountains to drink beer and chill with friends.
