>>1254534It's really close to Loch Doon actually, just to the Southwest. So I'm not sure you'd consider it branching out. Here you go anyway. There is a shortcut available to the site; there's a boarded path just where the tree line starts that drops down to the shore but I got tangled up in the highlighted boggy area so it's best to avoid and go the slightly further route. The firewood is full trees that have fallen over just standing there perfectly dried waiting to be harvested so take a saw with you. I'm not quite sure on the legality of this but I figure it's standing deadwood and technically since it's forestry commission land I must own a tiny fraction of it anyway so I thought it was fair game. I will say, however, there's a little shack and some moored boats just round the corner and both times I've been to the site a couple of lads (presumably to do with the boats) walked down to where I was on the beach and asked me a few questions. Kinda got the impression they were miffed I some how stumbled on their super secret little camp site (one of their questions was "how did you find this place?") But since I had every right to be there and they couldn't do shit about it they left after a minute or two. Not sure if this puts you off. It really shouldn't, it's a beautiful little spot.
>>1254551>it doesnt have ANY mountains. That's what I meant. I should have been clearer. It depends what you want really. If I'm walking mountains I tend to go to a proper camp site and do day trips with a light load. I know some people like doing multi day horseshoe routes with overnight stops but humping gear over mountains doesn't seem like much fun to me. When I wild camp I like to hike in a short distance and then just chill out. Galloway is perfect for this really. The walk here is only maybe 1.5 miles.
