I've hunted one spot with no decoys at all and have done better than other spots using decoys. I also find this story both ignorant and disturbing.You wouldnt need two shots to the head at point blank range with a shotgun to take a swimming deer. Type of shotgun load doesnt matter at short distances, as the shot doesnt pattern at all. Also most states it is illegal to hunt deer that are swimming, fleeing floods or fire. If the deer was swimming he could have easily grabbed it by the horns and drowned it, without having to waste a shell or damage the rack.
