I've always been wary of going too thick and scaring away fish, but that was before I bothered with leaders because I didn't know the knots very well. Picrel is on a MH with 25# braid and a 10# leader, which is probably overkill for the T rig I was fishing, but it's giving me comfort (along with what you're saying) to swap out some of my 10# for the 25# once it's past its life. I won't cast as far, but I imagine it's pretty negligible, especially on the mono one and especially on heavier lures, and can do way more variety as needed with 25# braid compared to 10# anything. I personally won't go much higher than that since I'm exclusively freshwater, but this has been an eye opening experience
