>>1490821I grew up in a small town in Southern Maryland. Contrary to popular belief there are many parts of the state that are very rural. We had two big myths growing up. First was the story of Moll Dyer. She was a local girl who was accused of witchcraft in the 17th century and was driven out of town by the locals who were fanatically Catholic. They found her frozen body a few days in the woods near a road which ended up being renamed after her. I grew up on a farm near those woods and I can say you do feel a bit uneasy while there, like you're being watched.
A large stone was also found next to her body. It had a faint imprint of a hand on it and what is believed to be other imprints of her body. The stone was moved to in front of the Leonardtown courthouse, and it is still there. It is believed that her last breaths were a curse upon the town. Some people have stated that they felt sick after going near the stone, I was always told not to touch it because you will get some serious bad luck. I knew a kid who did and he turned out to be a complete fuck up. Not sure if it was the stone or him just being an idiot.
The other legend we had was the Goatman. Apparently he was the bastard child of a witch and the devil that lived under a bridge. That's what everyone would blame when dogs and cats went missing.
