>>342416That's what I'm in the process of figuring out. I've been doing lots of day hikes over the past few months to get into the swing of it, but I only just started doing 2 day / 1 night trips last weekend, with another planned for tomorrow.
I spent quite a bit on Amazon this past week. Got a Cobra 3 man tent, which weighs in at 3kg, and I'm now thinking that might have been a bad idea. Not so much the weight as the size of it when packed up, it's damned big. But I wanted a tent I could use in general, not just hiking trips. Bought a Tatonka pot+frying pan lid on the recommendation of
>>341638. Almost 0.5kg, but quite excited to give that a go this weekend versus the crappy aluminium mess tins I've been using. Gonna pick up one of those coleman gas cans and little screw on stoves tomorrow before I set off. Sleeping bag is an old cheap one with some holes, not even mummy design, going in summer so not arsed about a fancy one, but did get a new thicker rollmat. Carrying 2L of water in a camelbak as usual, with a 1L empty bottle and some purifying tablets to restock with (I honestly don't mind the taste and it's cheaper than a filter pump).
I dunno whether to stick with my packet waterproofs, or upgrade to a nice 3-in-1 jacket. They look like they'd take up a lot of room in the bag. Anyone got any opinions on this?
So I'm starting from here and weeding out what doesn't get used over the next few trips, and adding things that I find I need. Would appreciate any tips.
