BOBs are for manchild faggots playing army and make belief. Here's what you actually need during a disaster.
>Casual looking backpack / schoolbag
Expensive / "thought-out" looking tactical gear makes you a target for thieves
>Extra layers and warm clothing / rain gear
Clothing should probably fill the majority of your bags space. Socks, underwear, outerwear, etc. Exposure will kill you first if you live in a remotely cold climate. Besides, you ever spend a cold night out in your street clothing? How was it?
>Water, lots of it.
During a disaster, there's a strong likelihood that water supplies will be fucked. Simple boiling in your steel bottle is not consistent enough if you live in an urban area. Carry extra, and multiple purification methods.
>A few days worth of food.
If you get stuck away from home, you may not want to waste time trying to buy / barter for food when you get hungry. Carry enough food to get you home on foot. In my case, it could take a couple days to get from work to home if the roads are knocked out.
>Flashlight, extra batteries.
Self-explanatory.
>Shelter of some kind.
I carry a cheap pic related bivvy in my bag. I've used it before when my truck got locked inside a gated park overnight. I think tarps are good too but in an urban environment I doubt their usefulness vs weight. More of a long term wilderness shelter item. What you need depends on location.
>Hygiene and first aid stuff
Travel toothbrush, dental floss, small stick of deoderant, some toilet paper etc goes a long way. I also carry tampons for my wife / other women. Hygiene is more important than people think. Throw a roll of "wysi wipes" into your kit, its probably my most used item.
>Couple bic lighters
It's all you really need
>Notepad
Pen and paper to leave notes at home or at work, in your car, etc for friends / family to find if cell service is unavailable
>Knife
Yeah yeah
>Gun, extra ammo
Something small and concealable
People focus way too much on combat / tactical shit
