Mountain Lions aren't much of a danger in that way, if they attack it'll be from behind or if you're stupid and corner one, they won't fight you over your lunch, but bears absolutely will wander right up to your tent if you've got something they want, and if you're smart you just let them have it. Even black bears aren't worth the risk to confront, better just avoid the situation from the start.
