My dad is more of a car guy than an outdoors man. He wanted me to be /out/ though and went out of his way to take me camping and hiking with him even if he was a beginner. Normally the hikes were done with crude supplies and army surplus bags, he carried most of the weight and I didnt really notice how hard he always pushed himself so I had a good time. Signed me up for cub scout and I eventually became an eagle scout, he was the scout master as no one else wanted to do it and the troop would be disbanded if no one stepped up.
He is getting old now and cant hike like he used to. He almost had a heart attack on Isle royale because he refused to admit he needed a break. Im still really grateful for his guidance and respect him.
