A white south African came to fish on the pier I've been cleaning up today. Had a couple hundred in gear, saying he's been chasing bass since moving from south Dakota here.
He corrected me, saying that everything I've been pulling up has been small mouth. And the lake hadn't been stocked for 20 years.
So, I'm going to look for a new in at a lake I know to be stocked. In the meantime, it looks like I may have caught all the stupid bass at my primary spot. The rev hackle trout flies aren't doing it any longer, and I see them get attentive then bounce
Do you need a reel to operate a popper? He showed me his, but it was the size of every fly I had combined. Do they make smaller ones, maybe as flies tied around a size 5-8 hook?
What would you recommend for bass fly fishing? Brighter colors and wide hackles are a hit, but only if I let sink then twitch on their attention.
Three bass, one more pumpkin seed, and a big bite that seemed like a heavier bass but got away before I could pull close enough to look. Productive morning.
