just because you take your trash to the transfer station doesnt mean it magically disappears with no harm whatsoever to the environment. it goes to a hole in the ground or is burned. also people who live in remote areas where there isnt a transfer station will burn their trash. a 55 gallon drum is great for that but there are new products that are sold for this purpose.
