https://youtu.be/wt50OERIkbQon sunday i was in a bit of a survival situation at white sands national park. i was drinking all night, didnt sleep and decided to go drive 3 hours for a 5 mile hike in the dunes. i was wearing my ruck because im training for the military. 3 bottles of water, couple mres, tent, sleeping bag, and 15 pound dumbell. i made it 2 miles in and it turned into white out sandstorm. so bad i couldnt see the sand dunes end and fell multiple time. ended up chucking the dumbell and turned around. couldnt see the poles that marked the trail so i had to rely on phone gps and my shadow to make sure i was going in the right direction. i didnt have goggles so sand was accumulating in my eyes. i was nearly blind by the time i made it back. because i rubbed them i scratched my right eye pretty bad. i couldnt drive home so i had to go to the er and get my eyes flushed. what i learned was no matter how tough you think you are being unprepared will always lead to disaster. if i had done a little bit of research i probably would have seen that goggles are a necessary item to pack when hiking in dunes like that. i learned my lesson the hard way. very humbling experience.
