Got a cheap rod & baitcaster on sale, had the worse time ever nothing but birdnests & in the corner it sat.
When gander went out picked up a better bait caster for like $20. had a much better time with it, but a couple of the breaks broke.
Picked up a daiwa tatula sv tws. Now I love using a baitcaster, the spinning gear just sits now unless I'm going for pan fish.
I think it's easier to cast with the baitcaster, seems a bit more accuracy within casting, & if your headed into a tree you can stop the spool.
It is possible to use lighter stuff like 1/4oz or under if you rig up a little add on weigh. I use a swivel with a bulled weight & a sanp at the end, dosen't seem to effect my catch rate.
