>>2322550If collecting on public land is legal where you are, you should also email your local museum and ask an expert about online resources for finding public land/leased land. I thought there was no public database for Crown land in my area for a long time but a paleontologist showed me a government application that maps all the public land in my province and also lists the contact information of every section of leased grazing land. Very very useful info.
>>2322560I'm in contact with the researchers at my local museum and they are well aware of what I find. I've even taken them out to where I hunt a few times and let them know when I find something that could be articulated. Isolated teeth have little scientific value and a smart researcher will be fine with you keeping them if you report the bigger stuff to them. Its a mutually beneficial relationship, as most important finds come from amateurs. I wouldn't even be able to effectively remove a dinosaur skull anyway, so I'm fine with letting them have it if I ever found one. I don't think people realize how fragile dinosaur Fossils are. I do agree with you though that things can be come worthless if removed improperly, and I take gps coordinates and in situ pictures of everything I find.
