I got lucky. I had to buy 2 bales of straw (gold price: $14.30 for 2 bales!) and when I went to the trailer where an employee loaded the bales up I noticed lots of loose hay. I asked about the loose hay, which was 4-8 inches deep on the entire trailer floor and 2-3 deep outside on the ground. The guy said I could have all of it for free. After much loading and dancing on the hay, in the back of my truck, I was able to get 2 big truck loads and there's still a 3rd load to get, unless someone else got to it.
