>>1626655Hello anon! I have been alao looking to build a camper/small living area in some kind of motor vehical. I have been looking into for about a year and half and am currently putting a bed and storage areas in my honda civic to start my building skills and get into the mindset.
The first thing to ask yourself is what do you want? Do you want a fixed bed always there? A fold up one? Do you want a table for just you or a big table and sitting area? Do you want a cooler or fridge? Do you want solar? If so how much and are going with acid lead batteries or lithium ion deep cells? How much storage do you need? Do you want a shitter/shower? Do you want a kitchen? With propane, induction, or electric cooking? Running water? How much clean water or dirty water storage do you want? Do you want to go out into the wilderness and need 4x4 or going to stealth camp in the city where you will need to hide the fact you are living? Do you want to be able to be mobile for up to a week with power and food? Or need to hook up to RV lot every day or two? If you want a solar set up that can power small appliances and a Tv and charge things with great batteries your looking at like 3 to 5k alone. Thats not building material, water, cooking, appliances, car repair. It can be totally worth it compared to spending 5k+ on rent each year. But its a huge time and money investment if you have no experience. And do you know how to cut all the wood and materials? Completely gut and rebuild the van? All the elecronics, water, propane, and the skills to maintain it all.
But like I said it depends on what you want. You could buy a e350 or small tool truck for super cheap, put a sink, bed, cooler in it for under 500 or a grand in supplies and be done with it. Or get solar for a tv, fridge, lighting, fans, possible heating or ac, appliances etc for a bit more money, that could give you the freedom you want with in a pseudo RV. Let me know your dream.
