>>1448038>>1448039Rendering is just some steam table pans on the stove with a candy thermometer later on when it starts getting close to being syrup. I transfer it into a stock pot to get it up to syrup temp (219F.)
I got my steam table pans from:
https://www.webstaurantstore.com/3165/stainless-steel-steam-table-food-pans-and-accessories.htmlEverything is is just cheap hardware stuff like the screw in hooks, vinyl tubing, and fence wire. The bottles can be anything, but the smaller they are the more often you'll need to empty them. Some people use PEX pipe and connect several trees to one collection area and large container. If I had a bridge across the waterway, I'd have 100+ trees tapped and a shack to render it down using a giant pan welded together from stainless steel. Right now, I just tromp all over the muddy hillside with a stainless steel milk can.
Due to terrible weather, there's no sap flowing today. Yesterday, I only got enough sap to make 1 pint of syrup. Hopefully, Friday and on the sap will flow again when the sun is out and temps are correct.
I'm actually tapping some trees that are a bit too small, for testing purposes. I won't tap them again until a few years later, but the info I'm getting is all good. I'll be cutting some other trees down that are useless for anything other than their wood.
