>>367764>Not all Goretex is the same, and sadly too often the different types are confused.Yes, all GoreTex material made by W.L. Gore and Associates Company, is GoreTex.
>And then, they're not all made by the same manufacturerAhh I see, so you're calling _any_ waterproof / breathable fabric product, "GoreTex",
in the same sense that tissue is called "Kleenex" regardless of who makes it.
> Durability is also a main concern15+ years on my early GoreTex shell parka and pants with zero problems.
> which is why the bivy OP wants to get sounds terrible, it's too cheap to be "good" GoretexI'm assuming it's mil-spec, which means it's good quality and probably sturdier then commercial
brands, though admittedly heavier because of that.
> seeing as there's Goretex at the bottom, abrasion becomes a problemThe bottom of bivy sacks aren't GoreTex, it's a coated nylon fabric.
> I don't really see why you'd use a bivy.I wouldn't either but for eXtreme backpacking situations or a bug-out bag where weight and bulk
and local conditions, a bivy sack is better then a tent.
Stick a Thermarest in there and roll it all up and you've got a compact, light weight, insulated and
waterproof bed.
