That being said, if you’re willing to spend ~$200 you can get a very nice Nissin rod that you will never need to upgrade. This is the same or less than most of the “American” rods that are actually manufactured in china. My brother has a very cheap rod that he ordered direct from China and it fishes and casts as well as the Tenkara USA rods that cost three times as much. So if you want to go cheap (nothing wrong with that btw) I would recommend going really cheap and cutting out the middleman. Don’t bother buying a kit either, the line and flies that come with them are usually shit and should be replaced anyway.
