This is not a realistic, grown-up policy solution.
The answer is higher density. Suburbs are far more destructive to ecosystems and energy than cities. Pic related. More people in the same area = less ecosystem destruction.
Also, cities are more humane places to live with public life and less alienation than suburbs. People generally prefer to live there, it's just that it prices out a lot of people. So we need to increase density and build more (wouldnt be much more at all per person compared to suburbs.
