>>2432838>I also just added a tarp, but it's only 6ft x 9ft and I'm concerned that's not big enough to make a worthwhile shelter with.thatMight as well pack a poncho tarp instead, double use and the same size. I have a Wäfo Monsun. Lightweight (less than 400g), stretchy loops at 9 points for easy usage as a tarp, has a hook that goes through your legs to keep the poncho down in heavy wind, size of the back can be changed if you are tall or have a large backpack. I also bought a pair of rain chaps from them.
I think the best tarp sizes for shelter are 4x4m at least. Bring 50m of 550 paracord (make sure it's nylon so it's more robust and UV protected).
Good quality tarps are DD hammock, even their ultralight line isn't bad at all.
It turned out that water can be a problem during hurricanes, the available ground water might be contaminated. I think for that you should bring a few liters ready to drink, then some activated coal filter against chemical contamination. The Sawyer and the like are great for biological contamination, but that's it. You should also consider bringing hand sanitizer, because via hands is how many pathogens make it into your body.
