I was a scout for a few years, from I was maybe 8 I think until I was 12-13. I'm Norwegian. We had some pretty good trips. The only thing I didn't like was the one serious scout leader who would use some scout meetings to go trough stuff from the bible, he liked to preach. The other scout leader was a bro and focused more on /out/ stuff instead of religion. It was still a pretty christian organization when I was there (a little over 10 years ago). Regional and national meetings were awesome, camping out with lots of kids, having competions in canooing, orientation etc.
We also had a shirt and got various patches. We had some good trips. I still remember the trip where one of the scout leaders found poop from a roe deer and said you could put it in your mouth just like skruf (powder tobacco), and then he did it. Then one of the ADHD kids in the troop had to try as well, and did it too.
