In terms of rod I'd suggest you got to all the Wal-Marts near you and look for a 7' MH F Berkeley Lightning Rod Shock. The previous gen to be specific. Pic related is one. They should be $50 at most but are likely to be in rollback.
If you can't find one then buy a Shimano Sellus in 7'2" MH F which is $60.
If you fish 1/16-1/4oz don't bother going under 1/4 on the baitcaster. Instead view this as an opportunity to force yourself to learn how to use heavier lures. So get some 1/4oz lead bullet weights and some plastics to Texas rig, and some 3/8oz jigs.
